It’s the first weekend of Joe Biden’s presidency, which surely means a lot of things to many people, but to me, it means I don’t have to spend my weekend shift waiting to write about President Donald Trump’s latest, inevitable lie.
At Mother Jones, we’ve corrected countless Trump falsehoods over the past four years, from his bull about the stock market and hooey about global warming to disinformation about the legitimacy of the election and bunkum about the coronavirus pandemic.
The National Rifle Association has been going through a rough patch lately. New York’s attorney general has called for the gun lobby to be dissolved, alleging that it “persistently engaged in illegal and unauthorized activities.” The organization’s financial woes, which began with reports of overspending and infighting, culminated in its recent declaration of bankruptcy.
Fox News hosts on Sunday downplayed the attack on Capitol Hill supporters by suggesting that left-leaning protesters in Portland "have an insurrection every night."
On Sunday's edition of Fox & Friends, hosts attempted to shift attention to protests in Portland instead of focusing on a seditious and deadly attempt to overthrow the U.
Nevermind that Health and Human Services nominee Xavier Becerra hasn't even been confirmed yet, CNN's Dana Bash continually badgered him to give a precise timeline on the Biden administration's plans for the distribution of the coronavirus vaccine.
The State of the Union host pressed Becerra on the Biden's administration's plans to clean up the mess left for them by the Trump administration, who failed to cooperate with the Biden transition team, and left them with no plan whatsoever for a distribution strategy, other than to just toss everything to the states, just as they did from the start with their failed handling of the pandemic.
Bash asked Becerra not once, but five times to give her a timeline on how long most Americans are going to have to wait before they finally get vaccinated, and as Becerra reminded her, maybe she should wait for him to actually be confirmed first before trying to pin him down as she did here.
Bash asked Becerra whether Biden's goal of 100 million vaccine doses in 100 days was "ambitious enough." Becerra replied that they're "certainly going to need to do even more but before we do the ambitious part we got to get everything working together because we just spent the first question and answer talking about how what we inherited didn't work."read more
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) on Sunday said that he will attempt to end former President Donald Trump's Senate impeachment trial because it is "stupid."
Rubio make the remarks during an interview with Fox News host Chris Wallace.
"First of all, I think the trial is stupid," Rubio said dismissively. "We already have a flaming fire in this country and it's like taking a bunch of gasoline and pouring it on top of the fire."
Rubio suggested that a pardon of Trump would be "good for the country."
Wallace pointed out that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has condemned Trump for his responsibility in the attack on the U.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) became annoyed with an ABC host on Sunday over the suggestion that former President Donald Trump's defenders are all "liars" about the results of the 2020 election.
"This election was not stolen," ABC host Georgia Stephanopoulos began his interview with Paul by noting. "Do you accept that fact?"
Paul, however, refused to respond with a straight answer.
"The debate over whether or not there's fraud should occur," Paul opined.
