The world comes to Colorado this weekend courtesy of Denver’s 12 sister cities from across the globe.
The highlight is Sunday’s Worldwide Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tivoli Student Union on the Auraria Campus.
Admission is free, and organizers promise a family friendly celebration of “art, music, dance, food, languages and stories” that will include Taiko drums, Ethiopian coffee, Indian henna tattoos, Israeli dance, (and) Kenyan fashion.
Friday at 6 p.m., History Colorado will host a 30th anniversary celebration of the Kunming-Denver Sister City relationship.

VARENNA, ITALY — Traveling via water gives you a different perspective. Sitting in the front cockpit of a tandem kayak 200 feet off shore from Varenna, Italy, in the middle of Lake Como, I count three gelaterias faster than you can say, “I know why George Clooney spends so much time here.”
Navigating Varenna by road, you couldn’t get within 500 feet of a scoop of gelato.
The first trip to Telluride requires no planning.
Visitors need only drive into the box canyon with its red and white cliffs, topped by a crown of jagged blue peaks, marvel at its unsurpassed beauty, retrieve their jaw from the valley floor and then repeat the process on all subsequent days of their visit.
However the next trip (and believe me, the second you see Telluride in the rear view mirror, you will want to know when you are coming back) might call for a little more scheduling.
On a trip this summer, my family and I took in the historic mining town from some new angles, each more gorgeous than the one before.
Although we usually stay in the town of Telluride, this summer we stayed about 800 feet higher in the quieter Mountain Village.
Worries that we would lose the dramatic views you get in town were erased as soon as I stepped out onto the terrace of the “Sky Pool” at the Madeline Hotel.
The Mountain Village, which has its own restaurants, shops and trails, is connected to the town by a free gondola that runs from 7 a.m.
We’ve all been there before, standing in front of our hotel room door and wondering where on Earth that flat, plastic key card went.
Maybe it’s at the bottom of your purse. Or stuck to a credit card in your wallet. Or lying, forgotten, on the nightstand inside.
At The Curtis hotel in downtown Denver, those days of fumbling and frustration are over — as long as you have your smartphone on you.
The pop culture-themed hotel recently rolled out Hilton’s new Digital Key technology for its 336 guest rooms, which allows Hilton HHonors members to use their smartphones as their room key. The HHonors app also allows guests to check in digitally, choose the exact room they want and get notified when that room is ready, bypassing the front desk upon arrival.
“We’re expecting that the people who use it will enjoy it,” said Zach Lybbert, director of marketing and sales at The Curtis.
