Amid the semiconductor industry’s slowdown and increasing geopolitical tensions, Dutch chip machine-maker ASML reported a decrease both in sales and profits. Europe’s most valuable tech company saw orders fall to €3.6bn in the first quarter of 2024, down from €9.2bn in the previous quarter. Its net profit also dropped to €1.2bn — a 37% decrease compared to Q4 2023.

The tools provide libraries of data about online adverts. By exploring the repositories, researchers can identify the funders and techniques behind the ads.

The Netherlands House of Representatives has voted to ban online gambling advertising and ‘high risk’ online gambling like slots.
The vote took place on Tuesday afternoon (April 16) and a majority vote in favor of the ban was secured. During the voting, 114 motions were submitted and decided on, 14 of which were focused on gambling and 10 were adopted.
Amongst the vote to ban online gambling advertising was the motion on “online gambling with a demonstrably very high risk,” with slots being used as the main example.
Netherlands-based Casino Nieuws says this is because “players have no control over the outcome of the game.” This was backed by MPs, with a majority of 79 votes in favor of the motion.
These bans were originally proposed back in February by the politician Derk Boswijk from the Christian Democratic Appeal party (CDA).
The U. K.’s Ministry of Justice has announced that creating sexually explicit “deepfake” images will be made a criminal offense in England and Wales under a new law.
Under the legislation, anyone making explicit images of an adult without their consent will face a criminal record and an unlimited fine. If the image is then shared more widely, the creator could then be sent to jail.
The new law will mean creating sexually explicit deepfakes will be a criminal offense, even if there is no intention to distribute it.
The Sims 4 continues to go strong even amid the rumors of advancements in the Sims 5 world – that is still a long way away yet and Electronic Arts’ masterstroke of finally making Sims 4 free to play last year has brought many more people to the franchise – and doubtless, those many more people have spent many more dollars on non-free DLC.
