Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC) on Thursday started offering a new checking account that won't allow overdrafts -- and won't allow customers to write checks.
The Wall Street Journal reports the checkless account, dubbed "Safe Balance," is designed for customers with low balances. And with a set monthly fee of $4.95, it also is aimed at creating a consistent revenue stream and lowering costs while removing controversial overdraft fees, the Journal notes.
