6-year-old Joey Cosmillo Dies 5 Years After Tragic Near-drowning

Death came this week to Joey Cosmillo. Five years after falling into his grandparents' Casselberry pool, the 6-year-old never played outdoors again. A victim of near-drowning a horror most common to toddlers in Florida Joey remained profoundly handicapped and under constant care since January 2007. While the Sunshine State regularly leads the country in the accidental drowning deaths of children 1 to 4 years old, Health Department figures show four times as many near-drowning victims require hospital treatment.
