A while back, Seth Ackerman — a writer for the radical left magazine Jacobin — published a long, detailed, and bracing article calling for the socialization of the financial industry. Then, over the weekend, he got a surprising (albeit inadvertent) endorsement from Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett.
In his annual letter to shareholders, the octogenarian investor extraordinaire gave a big conceptual boost to Ackerman's proposal.

You may have heard that Argentina is in the grip of an all-consuming political affair that sounds more like something out of a paperback thriller than real life.
Let's wind back. "The impulse to make (the images) comes and goes, but never disappears entirely," Ranalli says.
Even before Benjamin Netanyahu opened his mouth in Congress, his big controversial speech on Tuesday drew dueling full-page ads in The New York Times. "Jon, what a great day for traditional media," senior print analyst Aasif Mandvi told Jon Stewart on Tuesday night's Daily Show. It turns out the way to save print media, he added, was "angry Jews." (That's "one of the better iPhone games I've played," Stewart quipped.)
Sure, two $150,000 ads won't stop print newspaper from bleeding money, Mandvi conceded, but the pro- and anti-Netanyahu camps have now taken over the entire newspaper.
