The Seattle City Council went back in history on Monday to right a wrong, unanimously passing a resolution of regret regret for long ago anti-Chinese legislation passed by Washington Territory and a trio of exclusionary 1885 City Council resolutions. “Discriminatory policies ripple from the past and still affect Chinese communities today: Awareness and recognition of shameful policies in our history is the first step to moving forward together,” said Councilman Nick Licata, the measure’s prime sponsor and author of many of City Hall’s symbolic resolutions.
