Closing two days of around the clock negotiations, U. S. officials said Friday that they reached a breakthrough with Japan to move forward a stalled regional trade pact even though gaps remain that could still upend a final agreement.
The report comes as supporters of broadening eligibility for Medicaid make their last push to get approval through a contentious General Assembly. Some lawmakers have raised concerns about the program's future costs and who would benefit from Medicaid expansion.
Primaries are now in August for Congress, the state legislature and statewide offices. Backers say the date change gives candidates more time to raise money and prepare for general elections. The legislation now goes to the Senate.
