Giants bring road woes home, lose to Reds 7-5
The Giants returned home to face the Reds Monday night and lost again 7-5, and Belt had no more reason to feel guilty.
a problem that plagued the pitching staff in San Diego, Boston and New York carried over to the homestand opener.
Jake Peavy surrendered three home runs, and the Giants’ staff has given up 19 in nine games since the All-Star break.
Peavy cruised through three hitless innings but lost his momentum in the fourth, issuing two costly walks that were followed by two-run homers, one by Jay Bruce and one by Eugenio Suarez.
Peavy has surrendered 12 hits in two starts against the Reds this season, and a whopping seven were homers.
The tale of the tape on the ball he hit in the second inning was the longest off the night, but he unwisely sent it to right-center field, and Jarrett Parker caught it a few feet in front of the 421-foot sign.
Buster Posey made the crowd - the 455th consecutive announced sellout, tying the Indians for second-most in history - come alive with his two-out, opposite-field single that scored Span.
Bochy started Parker instead of Mac Williamson, who was one of the bright spots on the trip, going 8-for-18 with four extra-base hits.
Giants say they’re unconcerned with Cubs’ deal for Aroldis Chapman
The Giants spoke with the Yankees about Aroldis Chapman in the days leading to the All-Star lefty reliever’s trade to the Cubs on Monday.
The Yankees settled on a four-player package featuring a top prospect, Class A shortstop Gleyber Torres, 19, which the Yankees apparently thought the Giants couldn’t match.
“The Cubs got a good one, a real good one,” manager Bruce Bochy said.
Chapman’s Yankees beat the Giants two of three games over the weekend, and Chapman’s Cubs face the Giants, Sept.
