Says 'Washington math' won't work in GeorgiaGov. Nathan Deal cited significant growth in the film industry and progress toward deepening the Port of Savannah as major accomplishments during a campaign stop in Effingham County on Thursday.
Deal told about 200 people at the New Ebenezer Retreat and Conference Center that Georgia is ranked third in the country and fifth in the world in film production.
Police are looking for a Savannah man they’ve charged with armed robbery.
Darrell Edmund Phillips, 43, was identified as the suspect who on Oct. 21 robbed a 19-year-old man who had just given him money to help him with expenses, said Julian Miller, Savannah-Chatham police spokesman.
After the victim gave the robber money, the suspect produced a knife on near West 41st and Howard streets and demanded the rest of the victim’s money.
Police say Phillips is black, sands about 6 feet tall, weights 250 pounds and possibly has a short beard and mustache.
A Savannah-Chatham police investigative unit teamed with members of the public to arrest a five-time convicted felon on drug trafficking charges, worked with the city to close his business, and is partnering with federal officers for additional prosecution. Troy Dexter Williams, 45, has been charged with trafficking large amounts of cocaine after a Tuesday raid of his residence and his body shop, both on the 300 block of West 32nd Street and another business on the 1500 block of Montgomery, said Julian Miller, police spokesman.
