Bill Would Reduce Handgun Licensing Fees

AUSTIN — A bill to significantly reduce licensing fees for Texans wanting to carry a handgun — and reduce state revenues by about $15 million annually in a skin-tight budget year — was approved by the state Senate on Monday. By vote of 26-5, the Senate approved Senate Bill 16, which would reduce the initial handgun license fee from $140 to $10, and the renewal fee for a license from $70 to $40.
