Want Your Articles on Google Instantaneously? Digg it.

I'm just starting to submit stories from my blog to Digg, hoping against hope that they'll get some Digg love and drive some traffic back here. So far, no luck. The only Digg love my blog entries get is from me - and ONLY me. But I noticed a nice side effect - articles submitted to Digg almost instantly appear in Google's search results. Nice! Sure, the link goes to Digg, but from there, potential users can get here. It's a good trade-off.

This is great for new sites and non-established sites that either don't get crawled by Google at all or not often enough. Another nice thing with having your content on Digg is that since they have a really high page rank, your content will probably pop up higher in search results than if it was from your site. One of my articles appears on the first page for the main keyword!

I installed the AddThis button on every article on Wopular, and find that it doesn't drive much traffic back. It gets used, on average, four times a day. Yeah, pretty pathetic. I felt like I wasted my time installing it. But another nice side effect from this is that I find it very useful for submitting my blog entries to Digg. All I have to do is click on the AddThis button, click on Digg, login, and voila, I'm there.

So install AddThis buttons on your site and Digg away for higher placements on Google. Now, I'm not telling you to spam Digg. You can't anyway because they have spam controls. Only Digg stories that you think people would find value in. As with everything, don't abuse it.

One more thing. I lied. It's not instantaneous, but within an hour or so.

My friends just launched a mobile game called "Storm the Gates"! It's available on both Android and iOS. I'm not much of a gamer, so I didn't know what to do when I started it. But my 9-year-old son turned it on and knew exactly what to do. More

  • Live-Blogged The Golden Globes at MWB
Yesterday, I live-blogged The Golden Globes -- for various reasons. First, it gets traffic. Second, I might as well do something useful while watching TV. Lastly, I was looking forward to seeing Ricky Gervais host the event again. Nothing against Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, but he’s my favorite. A google search revealed that the last time I did this for this award show was More

  • Betaworks' Digg Relaunch Has One Fatal Mistake
Betaworks bought Digg, the website, for about half a million. It’s a complicated sale. Linkedin acquired the patents, and Washington Post got the talent (the engineers). The first thing Betaworks did was relaunch the site on August 1st. I noticed because their RSS feeds stopped working on Wopular. More
  • Finally, Replaced Digg with Reddit
I finally had to do it. I stuck with Digg for as long as I could. It’s the first social news site. Even after the infamous version 4, I stuck with them. A decent number of Digg's hardcore users had already jumped ship since v4. More
  • Buzzkill
I knew Yahoo Buzz was one of the “sunset” sites - properties that would be shutdown by Yahoo. I still kept it on the site, but moved it to the bottom of the homepage. • Don't Put Google Analytics at the Top
A new tracking code from Google Analytics was released recently. GA is a free web traffic reporting tool that let's you track how many users are viewing your website. • Drive-by Traffic, They Say It Like It's a Bad Thing
Rupert Murdoch, and a couple of his fellow newspaper-owners, say that traffic coming from search engines and aggregation sites are worthless. They call it "drive-by traffic." These users only come, read one article and then leave. For an industry profusely bleeding users and revenue, you would think they wouldn't be so discriminatory when it comes to users consuming their content. More
