If you, like me (probably not), was wondering what happened to Kony 2012’s “Cover the Night” event, it happened … last Friday, April 20th. I did see a sign, and my wife claimed to have seen a sticker or two while we were driving, which prompted us to wonder if the event had happened yet.

Yeah, the event wasn’t all that successful. It didn’t cover the night, the night covered it. Most people probably have no idea if it even occurred.

Kony 2012 started with a sizzle, but did it end in a fizzle? It depends on how you look at it.

It might have started a couple months earlier, but this is eerily similar to the summer of 2008 when gas prices were at record highs, which is around $4 per gallon. Back then, congress proposed a bill to regulate oil speculation, but nothing came of it. It was shelved when people fought back by driving less and using alternative methods of transportation, lowering gas prices to the point where it no longer became an issue.

It’s hard to think that increasing gas prices alone can derail the economy and Barack Obama’s re-election along with it, but the media certainly makes it seem possible with their headlines.

I remember during the summer of 2008 - in the heat of the presidential election - we encountered the same issue. Democrats tried to blame higher gas prices on then president George W. Bush. There were talk of opening up our oil reserves, more drilling, and regulating speculators.

I’m sure you heard of what happened to Jason Russell, the guy behind the ultra viral Kony 2012 video, over the weekend. He had an embarrassing mental breakdown due to physical and mental exhaustion (according to his wife) in San Diego and is now being held by the police for psychiatric reasons.

Head injuries are deceptive. I’ve read about many related to toddlers. They fall and hit their head on something. They cry and then stop after some consoling. They go to sleep shortly afterwards and don’t wake up.

It’s scary. It’s one of those injuries that’s hard to detect. They appear fine.

I think the recommendation from doctors is to first check the injury, and then see if they’re playing around afterwards. If they appear lethargic and tired, then you better take them to the doctor and have the injury checked out immediately.

Last week, a mayor in Japan made a comment that the atrocities committed during the Nanking Massacre didn't actually happen. The rape, torture, and murders were misreported. Whatever happened was just the normal run-of-the-mill stuff that happens in wars.

Not surprisingly, this caused an uproar in China, with people threatening not to support anything related to Japan.

Newt Gingrich lost the Florida primary to Mitt Romney, after initially leading in the polls after his South Carolina win. Gingrich’s numbers spiraled down soon afterwards. Romney had been favored to not just win in Floriday but also by a large margin, so his victory is not surprising.

I was reading two articles about the Florida primary outcome. One from LA Times and the other from the Washington Post. The thing that stuck out at me was how much more money Romney had to spent on television attack ads than Gingrich.
