The body of a missing kayaker was found Saturday near a rapid on the Crystal River, where the Roaring Fork Valley man was separated from his kayak on Thursday. At about 3:30 p.m. the Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District notified Pitkin County officials that the body of the 41-year-old man was recovered in the general area of the “Meatgrinder” rapid, a fast-paced, steep, and difficult section of the river just north of Redstone, where his craft overturned and where he went missing Thursday, according to a news release. Pitkin County deputies and a staff member of the coroner’s office were in route Saturday afternoon to Redstone to meet with the people who found the kayaker and to take possession of the body, the release said.
