Book review: Local author writes a refreshing first novel about memory and estrangement

I’ve long been bothered by the fact that the same authors appear on national best-seller lists and in double-deep stacks in store displays. At the time of this writing, James Patterson, David Baldacci and Jodi Picoult have novels on The New York Times best-seller list. A decade ago, they did as well.
