Girls flag football faces critical vote to become CHSAA sanctioned

After two years of explosive growth as a pilot program in Colorado, girls flag football is at a critical juncture.
The sport will either become sanctioned at Tuesday’s CHSAA Legislative Council meeting or it will be voted down, in part over concerns about logistical issues involved in getting flag football off the ground.

Broncos close to signing CB Levi Wallace after free agent visit earlier this month, sources say

Pat Surtain II is close to having a new running mate.
Or at least a new candidate for the job.
Denver is bringing cornerback Levi Wallace back to town Monday, sources confirmed to The Post, and a deal is expected to follow if everything goes to plan. The move would add veteran presence to a group that is otherwise young around Surtain.
The 28-year-old also made a free agent visit to Denver earlier this month, setting the stage for a decision.
NFL Network first reported the deal was close.

Rockies split doubleheader with Mariners but have yet to win back-to-back games this season

Twenty-two games into the season, the Rockies have yet to win back-to-back games.
Call it the Rockies’ Catch-22.
If they hit well — an increasingly rare occurrence — they don’t pitch well. If they pitch well — an occasional occurrence — they don’t hit.

Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic named finalist for NBA’s MVP award

Nikola Jokic is one step closer to winning a third MVP award in the last four seasons. Victor Wembanyama is surely on his way to a trophy — or maybe two. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander might get a couple of his own as well.
The NBA revealed the finalists for most of the league’s postseason awards Sunday — and to no surprise, Jokic, the Denver Nuggets’ star, was one of the three top vote-getters for the top individual honor, the Michael Jordan trophy that gets presented to the league’s Most Valuable Player.

Keeler: Avalanche, Jared Bednar have no choice: goalie Justus Annunen, if healthy, needs to start Game 2 vs. Jets

Avalanche fans deserve Justus.
Do whatever it takes, Jared Bednar. Nyquil. Mucinex. Voodoo. Anything that gets Avalanche backup goaltender Justus Annunen healthy and ready to start Game 2 of this Avs-Jets series. Anything that gets No. 1 netminder Alexandar Georgiev away from the crease and out of the firing line.
Love Georgie.
He’s toast.

Avalanche-Jets Game 1 Quick Hits: Josh Manson’s regrettable first period helps sink Colorado in defeat

Instant reaction from the Avalanche’s 7-6 loss to the Winnipeg Jets in Game 1 of their first-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series.

Alexandar Georgiev, Avalanche snowed under by Jets’ flurry of goals in Game 1 loss

WINNIPEG — The Colorado Avalanche did not make it to Game 2 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs before goaltending became the dominant storyline.
Alexandar Georgiev allowed seven goals on 23 shots, and a fast start by Colorado quickly faded under the weight of an avalanche of goals against in a 7-6 defeat Sunday night at Canada Life Centre.
Adam Lowry and Kyle Connor both scored twice, with all four goals coming after a wild first period, to help the Winnipeg Jets secure Game 1 of this best-of-seven Western Conference opening-round series. Game 2 is here Tuesday night.

Football recruiting: CU Buffs land Pitt transfer Dayon Hayes

For the second time this offseason, head coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes have landed a former Pittsburgh defender.
On Sunday, defensive lineman Dayon Hayes announced his commitment to the Buffs.
“I WANT IT ALL #SkoBuffs,” Hayes wrote on X.
Hayes played four seasons at Pitt, appearing in 39 games, with 12 starts. He will be a fifth-year senior with the Buffs, using his bonus year granted to all players from 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
During his time with the Panthers, he posted 81 tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss and 12 sacks.

Renck: Michael Porter Jr. finds support from teammates as he seeks refuge on court

There is a chair in front of Michael Porter Jr.’s locker where the artwork rests. It was a gift from teammates Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Jamal Murray, a reminder that there is no paved road back to an NBA title. It reads simply: “I am going to do today what others won’t, so that tomorrow I can do what others can’t.”
Porter looked back at the picture Saturday night with comfort.
“I have to go hang that up at the house,” Porter said.

Rockies Journal: The “Curse of DJ LeMahieu” continues in LoDo

You’ve no doubt heard of the Curse of the Bambino. What about the Curse of LeMahieu?
The thought popped into my head Friday when the baseball gods decided to punish the Rockies further.
