House Democrats investigate White House security clearances

WASHINGTON — A powerful House committee now led by Democrats is opening an investigation into how security clearances have been handled in President Donald Trump’s White House and 2016 presidential transition.
The inquiry by the House Oversight and Reform Committee, announcedWednesday, takes direct aim at some of those closest to the president over the past two years, including former national security adviser Michael Flynn, Trump son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and former White House aide Rob Porter.

 

Detective: Florida school shooting deputy statement faulty

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A Florida detective told investigators the former deputy entrusted to protect a high school where 17 people died in a mass shooting last year gave an initial statement filled with inaccuracies about his actions.
Broward Sheriff’s Office Detective John Curcio told investigators that ex-deputy Scot Peterson’s story about what happened at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland contains many inconsistencies when compared with video evidence.

 

Letter: Republican idea nothing new

David Nierenberg is a smart guy. It is disingenuous for his letter on Jan. 9 to praise Jaime Herrera Beutler for the idea of the Democrats giving on border security and the Republicans giving on DACA, when that was actually agreed to by Trump and six bipartisan senators in 2018. Then Trump changed his mind.
