Chelsea Schobert Granted Early Release From Prison

The 20-year-old daughter of a slain New Franklin couple has been granted her released from prison, about a year and a half before the term was set to expire.Chelsea Lynn Schobert had been sentenced last June to 2½ years in prison following a guilty plea to charges of drug trafficking.In August, after her transfer to the Franklin Medical Center in Columbus, she gave birth to a daughter.“Being incarcerated has really helped me to be able to think rationally and get the help I need for my daughter and I upon returning to the community,” Schobert wrote in a letter to the court seeking her release.In the hand-written letter, Schobert said prison programs have taught her “some very important life skills and basic living situations such as nutrition, parenting skills and financial stability to take care of myself upon my release.”Summit County Common Pleas Judge Christine Croce granted the release in a hearing Tuesday morning.Croce put Schobert on probation for two years, ordered her to undergo random drug testing and said she must obtain a full-time job or continue her education.
