The VA Western New York Healthcare System has completed a $4 million renovation of the inpatient psychiatric unit at its Buffalo hospital.
Set to open May 11, the 10,000-square-foot, 15-bed unit includes a six-bed suite dedicated to women veterans.
It replaces a unit with 18 beds. Officials at the 190-bed hospital say the decrease in patient beds reflects a growing trend in health care away from inpatient care and toward outpatient settings when appropriate.
