Washougal girls continue 2A GSHL domination

RIDGEFIELD — The Washougal Panthers sure making winning a league title — or in their case, repeating again for the fourth straight year — easy.
The Panthers clinched at least a share of the 2A Greater St. Helens League title in girls basketball following Tuesday’s 62-21 win at Ridgefield to remain unbeaten in league with three regular-season games remaining. Washougal (13-4, 9-0) can clinch the league title outright as early as Thursday when it hosts second-place Woodland.

 

Report: U.S. intelligence sees ‘ever more diverse’ threats

WASHINGTON — Russia’s efforts to expand its influence and China’s modernizing military are among the “ever more diverse” threats facing the U.S., according to a major intelligence report released Tuesday.
The National Intelligence Strategy report, issued every four years, also singles out such potential threats as North Korea’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, the growing cyber capabilities of U.S. adversaries and global political instability.

 

Girls basketball: Columbia River 47, Mark Morris 14

Jordan Ryan scored 13 points and Sydney Flores-Tucker added 11 as the Chieftains drew to 4-4 in a tight 2A Greater St. Helens League.

Girls basketball: King’s Way Christian 52, Castle Rock 23

Lacey Zook had 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lead King’s Way to a Trico League win.
Abby Cummins also scored 12 points, and Kira Zook add 10 for the Knights. MacKenzie Ellertson had nine points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals.
KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 52, CASTLE ROCK 23

 

Girls basketball: Stevenson 64, Columbia-White Salmon 47

Kaitlyn Wenz had 18 points and eight rebounds as the Bulldogs earned a 1A Trico League win at home.
Katie Rathgeber added 15 points, while Jaida Emerson and Cassie McNabb each scored 10. Rathegeber and McNabb were a combined 10 for 10 from the foul line.
The win sets up a showdown Thursday between Stevenson (12-4, 5-1) and King’s Way Christian (11-5, 6-0).

Girls basketball: Woodland 58, R.A. Long 50

Payten Foster scored 10 of her 20 points in a big second quarter as the Beavers moved into sole possession of second place in the 2A Greater St. Helens League.
Nicole Guthrie had eight of her 13 points in the second quarter as Woodland outscored R.A. Long 29-6.
R.A. Long rallied in the second half, but couldn’t get any closer than six points.
Guthrie also added eight rebounds and three assists and Nicole Christensen added six rebound and four assits.

Girls basketball: Mountain View 48, Evergreen 33

Jenna Carlson had 18 points, nine rebounds and five steals to lift Mountain View into sole possession of third place in the 3A Greater St. Helens League.
Paytin Ballard added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Thunder.
