The Colorado Music Festival is one of those artistic jewels that make the state a magical place for classical in summer. The 2016 version opens big in Boulder this week with a concert featuring Jennifer Koh performing the ultra-contemporary Violin Concerto, by Finnish composer Esa-Pekka Salonen. Bookending that show piece — and broadening the concert’s appeal to traditionalists — will be Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture” and Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique.” CMF Music Director Jean-Marie Zeitouni conducts the fest’s orchestra for the program, set for 7:30 p.m.
