The park at the center of Arturo Rodriguez’s neighborhood, where his family has been for five generations, is called La Raza. He said it means “the people” — which means empowerment, pride and unity. “Viva La Raza,” he said, repeating the refrain of the Chicano movement in the 1960s and ’70s. But the official name of the plot of land on Navajo Street and 38th Avenue is Columbus Park, which Rodriguez said represents the history of colonialism and violence against Indigenous people in the United States.
