Cuban firefighters were joined by special teams sent by Mexico and Venezuela on Sunday as they battled for a second day to control a fire blazing at a big oil tank farm in the western province of Matanzas. Authorities said Sunday that a body found at the site had been identified as firefighter Juan Carlos Santana, 60.

China has carried out four consecutive days of military drills in the air and waters around Taiwan following U. S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the island, officials announced Sunday.  Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has called on the international community to "support democratic Taiwan" and "halt any escalation of the regional security situation." But the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) conducted a number of long-range air and ground strike exercises, and Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported that the Taiwanese army will conduct live-fire drills this week in response.

Brazilian police have accused a German diplomat of beating his husband to death and attempting to cover up the incident as an accident. Police arrested Uwe Herbert Hahn, a consul at Germany's consulate in Rio de Janeiro, on Saturday. Hahn had originally reported his husband's death as an accident, telling authorities Walter Henri Maximilien Biot had fallen and fatally struck his head at the Rio de Janeiro, according to the Straits Times.

Israeli forces made nearly two dozen arrests overnight in the West Bank as the death toll in Gaza rose to 32 on Sunday. All those arrested were allegedly members of the Islamic Jihad militant group, which has lost two of its senior commanders to Israeli strikes in recent days. The Palestinian Ministry has also alleged that Israeli airstrikes have killed 32 people, including six children, as tensions have escalated since Friday.
