The team's third-round draft pick, Mathieu did not play last season after repeated off-field issues. According to a person familiar with the contract, Mathieu does not get his entire slotted salary bonus of $662,500 at first. In two seasons at LSU, Mathieu recovered eight fumbles, returning two for touchdowns, forced 11 fumbles, made four interceptions and 133 tackles, and had six sacks.

(AP) — Charges that an Army sergeant secretly photographed and videotaped women at West Point are part of a military-wide pattern of sexual misconduct, U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said Thursday. The allegation comes the same month the Pentagon released a report estimating that as many as 26,000 military members may have been sexually assaulted last year and that thousands of victims are unwilling to come forward despite new oversight and assistance programs. Service members afraid of retaliation or jeopardizing their careers often are reluctant to bring charges of sexual misconduct to their superiors, she said. Gillibrand, who is on the Senate Armed Services Committee, is pushing for a system in which sexual assault is reported outside the chain of command, directly to a military prosecutor. West Point was named along with military officials in a lawsuit filed in April 2012 seeking the court's help in permanently changing attitudes about sexual assault at military academies. Army spokesman George Wright said West Point is working to prevent sexual harassment and assault and to cultivate cultural norms that prevent it in the future.

Former NFL kicker accused of damage and theft (AP) — Former NFL and University of Arizona kicker Max Zendejas has been indicted on damage and theft charges in connection with his recently closed Tucson restaurant. Pima County authorities say the indictment claims Zendejas "recklessly defaced or damaged property" belonging to the university causing more than $10,000 in damages at the restaurant.

DeKalb moves commencements from religious settings (AP) — None of the DeKalb County school system's commencement ceremonies will take place in places of worship this year in response to parent complaints. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday (http://bit.ly/13NCJ30 ) that the district decided to move about 12 ceremonies from religious venues in response to parents complaining about the public schools holding graduation ceremonies in religious settings.
