Mitt Romney's Record as a Job Creator Was Awful When He Was Governor of Massachusetts

Here’s a quote from a Reuters article regarding Mitt Romney’s record as a job creator when he was Governor of Massachusetts:

Senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod noted in an appearance on CBS's "Face the Nation" that "Governor Romney offers himself as a job creator, a kind of economic oracle and he's saying the same exact thing as he said 10 years ago when he ran for governor of Massachusetts."

"What happened?," Axelrod asked. "Massachusetts plunged to 47th in job creation. They lost manufacturing jobs at twice the rate of the country and created jobs at one-fifth the rate of the rest of the country.”

If this is true - I’m sure there’s a bit of spin here - then it just goes to show that just because Romney is super rich doesn’t necessarily mean that he reproduce that success as a politician.

It’s also the first data I’ve read regarding Romney’s record as a job creator as a politician - good to know, especially since he’s bashing Obama on the economy. It doesn’t seem like he was doing any better, and he wasn’t governing during one of the worst recessions in U.S. history.

Of course, it doesn’t mention if some of the job cuts were necessary and had to be done in order to balance the budget and not bring his state into debt. Still, it’s consistent with what Republicans want to do currently under the Obama administration - they’re gung ho about cutting spending and shrinking government, which leads to job losses for public workers.
