Published 07:14 p.m., Monday, July 16, 2012 WASHINGTON - Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, the long-time Texas congressman who marshaled an American tea party movement, won't get to have a last word - at least not at the GOP national convention next month. A formal nomination and prominent speaking role at the GOP convention would have been Paul's preferred way to depart the political arena while simultaneously passing the baton to his son, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, said Rice University political scientist Mark Jones. Paul told supporters in a video message on his campaign website that their approach would be "very, very crucial to people wanting to listen" to the unrelenting message of small government that he doggedly carried through state-by-state Republican primaries and nearly two dozen GOP presidential debates.
