PITTSBURGH (AP) — A detective who made an incriminating statement to one of his fellow officers who surrounded his home during a standoff two years ago wasn't entitled to have his rights read to him regarding his arrest, an appeals court said, overturning an earlier ruling. [...] state prosecutors argued that the 42-year-old Zahradnik hadn't been in custody and, as a police officer, he should have known his rights and the ramifications of his statements. The appeals court found that Zahradnik's statement "was not the product of police interrogation, but rather resulted from negotiations for a peaceful resolution" of the standoff.
