Appeals court upholds sentence in Oklahoma adoption scam

BY ROBERT BOCZKIEWICZ, For The OklahomanDENVER — A federal appeals court ruled Thursday that four years in prison is not too long for a Muskogee woman convicted of adoption fraud by preying on desperate couples who wanted to adopt a baby. The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Davanna Dotson’s claim that a four-year prison term was unreasonable for scamming couples by taking their money and not intending to give them a child. One of the couples had hired Oklahoma City adoption attorney Julie Demastus as their intermediary with Dotson and paid Dotson more than $4,700, the court ruling states.Read more on NewsOK.com
