Government agencies and many large corporations are mandated to do a certain percentage of their business with woman-owned companies, and have goals to meet in terms of the number and dollar volume of contracts awarded to such firms. The idea behind the mandate is to level the playing field for woman-owned businesses that historically have not had the same opportunities to compete as those owned by males. Because of this, buyers are always on the lookout for qualified woman-owned businesses to help them meet their goals. The University of Houston-Bauer College Small Business Development Center presents a free monthly workshop called Grow Your Business With Women Business Enterprise Certification.
