I loved The Avengers -- it was a whole lotta fun in theaters. But I can't help but feel like I was watching more of a 2hr TV film with amazing production values than an actual film. I'm sure part of this has to do with the aspect ratio; The Avengers was filmed in 1.85:1 while most other films use the 2.39:1 format (here's an image on aspect ratios.) In other words, it felt more "squished." This had to do with filming the Hulk, since his height in a normal format would require the camera to pan out and film from a farther distance in order to fit him and the normal characters on screen, whereas the 1.85:1 format allowed them to film the Hulk closer-up without compromising screen space for other characters.
