Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame inducts 2 newsmen

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Two longtime newspapermen were inducted into the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame in ceremonies Saturday. The late Dave Sanford, whose family ran the Mason Valley News in Yerington for decades, and Brian Greenspun, editor and publisher of the Las Vegas Sun, were honored at the Nevada Press Association's annual convention held at the Aliante hotel-casino. Sanford, who died in January, was publisher of the Mason Valley News until 2013. A graduate of Yerington High School and the University of Nevada, Reno, Sanford started his career as a sports writer and later covered news, took photos and wrote opinion pieces while also helping with design and paste-up. After leaving the newspaper briefly in the 1980s, he returned to the Mason Valley News in 1989 and rose to the assistant editor position before becoming editor and co-publisher.
