Despite today's rain, September has been dry

Farmers who need to get winter crops in the ground aren’t getting much of an assist from Mother Nature. September is a historically dry month, but this year was parched even by normal standards. Dry conditions are ideal for harvesting corn and soybeans, but they make it difficult to plant wheat that should be going into the ground this week, said Adam Sharp, vice president for public policy at the Ohio Farm Bureau.
