King Street shooter sentenced to 28 years in prison

The man who pleaded guilty of shooting Ivan Ortiz to death on March 19 in Colorado Springs was sentenced to prison nearly three decades in prison at the El Paso County courthouse Wednesday.Preston Deangalo Johnson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and will serve 28 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections with a mandatory five-year parole, the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office said.Johnson was convicted of shooting the 26-year-old Ortiz at a townhouse on the 2500 block of King Street, off Mesa Road in March 2013.Johnson, 28, was arrested April 12 in Cheyenne, Wyo., following a traffic stop.-Contact Andrea Sinclair: 636-0235Twitter @GazetteAndreaFacebook Gazette Andrea Sinclair Read more on Colorado Springs Gazette
