The national initiative awards gold-level standing to schools that meet 20 components of an asthma-friendly school, which focus on the health services of schools, the asthma education faculty receives and how physical education is managed. A Tex Hill Middle School food drive benefiting the San Antonio Food Bank exceeded the goals of the PALS student organization that sponsored it by collecting almost 3,000 food items late last month, North East Independent School District officials reported. The group's “Go Orange for Hunger” campaign included participation in a one-day event at an area Whataburger, which dedicated 20 percent of its profits to the food bank, and a food drive featuring public service announcements before school and during lunch periods and “Go Orange” decorations.
