A third-grade teacher at a Christian school who had agreed to surrender to police on child-sex charges committed suicide Wednesday. Joel K. Taylor, 52, was supposed to go to the Ocala Police Department but instead shot himself once in the chest with a Taurus 9mm handgun in the backyard of a home where he had been staying for about a week, according to OPD.
