The History of Digital Imaging Began With a Baby Picture

The first digital picture on a computer was, of course, a picture of a baby. In 1957, Russell Kirsch was working at the National Bureau of Standards, which had something amazing—the first computer that could be programmed. Here's how Kirsch introduced it in a 2011 talk: Please try to put your thinking back to when there was a widespread lack of any tool that you believed could do whatever you conceived.
