Stomping your Thanksgiving feast into bite-size pieces

On the eve of the great annual feast, almost a month beyond Halloween, the Oakland Zoo sent word that local pumpkin patches have donated thousands of pumpkins to be turned into animal treats. The zoo says it serves up pumpkin kebabs (I’m trying to picture the elephants trying to take out the sticks; perhaps they use them as giant Stim-U-Dents); “gourd bowls filled with meat treats” (very Martha Stewart); “and even frozen delicacies.” Lead elephant keeper Gina Kinzley says that if elephants can’t fit pumpkins “directly into their mouths, they puncture them with their tusks or stomp them open with their foot.” The show’s description: “Janine is creating plaster casts of her hip bones and will replace the pre-war chair rails of the gallery with these casts, the right and left 'bones’ running around the space and meeting, culminating, in a full cast of her pelvis.” [...] Tim Wu reports that at the Regency Ballroom on Nov.
