This is an excellent suspense novel, a bit grisly in the opening pages — a forger is bludgeoned and his hands chopped off before he dies — but the narrative quickly settles into an intricate cat-and-mouse game between author and reader. It gives almost nothing away to say that Bradford Morrow is, quite skillfully, paying homage to one of Agatha Christie’s most famous whodunits.
