David Lee closes in on Monday return

David Lee took his most significant strides toward getting back into game action Saturday, when he completed a practice, including his first full-court scrimmage without any tweaks of his strained left hamstring. Since straining his left hamstring in the Warriors’ preseason finale, Lee has missed 24 regular-season games, including 21 in a row after trying to play in Game 4 against the Clippers but lasting only 6 ½ minutes. Lee averaged 15.2 points on 53.4 percent shooting to go along with 9.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists in his first nine seasons, and he seemed poised for another productive season. Lee has similar vision and passing skills to those of center Andrew Bogut, who is expected to miss a couple of weeks after starting platelet-rich-plasma therapy on his injured right knee. David is more capable of stepping outside and making a shot, but the post-up is something we’ve missed. “I’ve played a lot of minutes with Mo, and D-Lee and I played an entire playoff series together,” Greem said. Since the Warriors have opened the season with a franchise-best 22-3 start and sit atop the loaded Western Conference standings, it’s easy to forget just how important Lee has been to the Warriors during the past four seasons. After agreeing to a sign-and-trade deal from New York to the Warriors, Lee has averaged 18.2 points on 51.3 percent shooting to go along with 10 rebounds and three assists per game.
