Proposals could fund well testing, remediation

AUGUSTA — After a study found that high arsenic levels in central Maine drinking water could lower IQ levels in children, the Legislature will consider measures to fund well testing and remediation for some families. Arsenic, a carcinogen occurring naturally in much of Maine’s bedrock, is a particular problem in parts of central and Down East Maine.
