Yale study on Alzheimer's disease finds new role for immune cells

NEW HAVEN >> The immune cells that surround the plaques believed to cause Alzheimer's disease may help prevent progression of the disease, according to a Yale School of Medicine study.That is the opposite of the approach most researchers have taken, believing that the cells, called microglia, were causing inflammation that assisted the progression of Alzheimer's dementia.
