Singer’s late three-pointer leads Cal basketball to win over Washington Sam Singer watched the ball fall short and turned to his bench with both arms in the air. Nigel Williams-Goss, who scored 31, missed a contested would-be game winner that would’ve made Singer’s improbable shot irrelevant. The shot propelled the Bears, who entered the two-game road trip to Washington on a six-game losing streak, to their second win in four days. Other teams sagged off the sophomore guard, who was averaging two points per game in conference play. The shot was designed to go to guards Tyrone Wallace, Jordan Mathews or center David Kravish. Singer has a reputation for being a worker. After losing to Cal State Bakersfield earlier this season, Singer stayed at Haas Pavilion, working on his shot in the late hours of the night. Mathews, who scored a team-high 23 points, said they watch Singer make that exact shot frequently in practice. During that span, the Bears scored over 80 once, in an 81-75 win against the Huskies in Berkeley. Five players scored in double figures.
