Republican majority would support Christianity as ‘national religion”: Poll

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (to the right of Speaker John Boehner) was the last Jewish Republican in Congress at the time of his primary election defeat last year.  In a party increasingly populated by Christian evangelicals, 57 percent of Republicans in a poll said they favor establishing Christianity as America’s “national religion.” Fifty-seven percent of Republicans polled in national survey back establishing Christianity as the “national religion” of the United States.
