UTEP women's basketball: Miners rev up in second half, upset Louisiana Tech

The end of February is always going to be a pivotal point for a college basketball team, particularly for the rebuilding UTEP women who have struggled to find wins for most of the last two months. This is the part of the year that shows character, when a team at the bottom half of the standings can fold or fight. That was one of many categories where the Miners came up huge Friday in a 88-75 upset victory over a Louisiana Tech team that entered the game in fourth place in Conference USA. UTEP overcame an up-and-down first half to begin the second half with nine of the best minutes the Miners have played all year, opening the period with a 31-8 run that all but secured a berth in the Conference USA tournament in two weeks.
