The motoring public will feel a 7 cents gasoline tax hike as the first step to pay for a $16.1 billion transportation package unveiled Monday by bipartisan legislative leaders, after Gov. Jay Inslee agreed to swallow a “poison pill.” The package includes an 11.9-cents a gallon gas tax increase, $8.8 billion for state and local road projects, $1 billion for multimodal projects (bicycles, pedestrian safety, etc.) and authority for Sound Transit to ask voters for $15 in tax hikes to expand light rail.
