La Jolla Symphony taps into power of Debussy’s ‘Jeux’

In May 1913, a ballet premiered in Paris whose music would affect an entire generation of composers. Two weeks later, Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” debuted. The innovation of Debussy’s “Jeux (Games)” was not immediately apparent, overshadowed by Stravinsky’s notorious score. “Jeux” avoids traditional forms, constantly changing yet somehow musically cohesive.
