Retired police officer to face incumbent in Midwest City mayoral general election

By Josh Wallace Staff Writer jwallace@oklahoman.comMIDWEST CITY — After months of debate about public safety between city government and union leaders, voters decided Tuesday who will run in April's mayoral general election. Retired Midwest City police officer Matt Dukes received 55 percent of the vote in Tuesday's recall election, which also served as a primary election. He will face Mayor Jay Dee Collins, who garnered 35 percent of votes, in April. “I think that's what was said last night (was) ‘if you're going to take office you better at least take the time to listen to the concerns of your constituents or we'll kick you out, too,' that's kind of my analogy,” Dukes said Wednesday. Collins was not available for comment but released a statement saying he was disappointed in the results of the election and thanked his supporters for their hard work and commitment. Residents circulated a petition last year to have Collins recalled, complaining that he supported Midwest City Manager J.
