Madison Bumgarner’s day was not routine

NEW YORK — Sunday’s game seemed headed for a lengthy rain delay or even postponement until the Mets decided at close to the last minute to start on time during a drizzle. “I was 20 minutes late for my pregame routine,” Bumgarner said. Bumgarner struck out six and had to work out of a lot of trouble, the worst being the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth, facing pinch-hitter Asdrubal Cabrera in a 4-0 game. After pitching coach Dave Righetti visited the mound to give Derek Law more time to get warm, Bumgarner struck out Cabrera on three pitches. Bumgarner now owns the lowest ERA of any visiting pitcher at Citi Field with at least 25 innings at 0.62. Replay confusion: Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford wondered why Neil Walker was not ruled out and a double play called after Walker slid and did not keep a hand on the bag in the eighth inning Saturday. Crawford also believes Walker changed his direction slightly to go after him, a move also supposedly against the new rules. Manager Bruce Bochy appealed the “safe” call, but it was upheld. “Before this year, I never would have thought twice about it,” Crawford said. To me, it didn’t look like he tried to stay on the base, which is one thing you’re supposed to do. Henry Schulman is a San Francisco Chronicle staff writer. Running team: The Giants on Sunday stole four bases without being caught, the first time they have done so since a 14-7 victory against the Marlins in May 2012.
