Paton played Mrs. Lancaster, the kindly, elderly, small-town innkeeper who played host to Murray on his never-ending day in 1993's "Groundhog Day." Before that she had a long stage career based mostly in the San Francisco Bay Area, and founded a theater in Berkeley.
