5 triumphant moments from day two of BottleRock

Midway through Florence + the Machine’s headlining set on Saturday, May 28, the Golden State Warriors clinched a season-saving victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of the NBA Western Conference finals, prompting the audience across the festival grounds to launch into a spontaneous chant: Warriors! Green Day drummer Tre Cool and bassist Mike Dirnt joined celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto on the Williams-Sonoma Culinary stage to learn how to make sushi. The demonstration, hosted by the tireless emcee Liam Mayclem, featured the butchering of a whole blue fin tuna (“This is some ‘Dexter’ s—here,” said Dirnt); a quick rendition of “Happy Birthday” for the chef with Cool playing a wild drum solo on a kit made entirely out of pots and pans; and a possibility of a new career for the members of the platinum-selling punk band (“It’s always good to have a backup plan,” said Dirnt). The Pharcyde, the Los Angeles hip-hop band that released a pair of seminal rap albums more than two decades ago — 1992’s “Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde” and 1995’s “Labcabincalifornia” — returned with a playful, rowdy afternoon set on the Midway stage. The performance included the phrase, “Throw your hands in the air and wave them like you just don’t care!” It also included throwback hits like “Passin’ Me By,” “Runnin’” and “Ya Mama,” teaching an entirely new generation helpful insults like, “Ya mama got a glass eye with the fish in it.” K.
